Recorded live without overdubs in the mid-1990s, mastered in the early noughts, Electro-Ecstatic is Phase II of Mutootator, Djll's pioneering project combining digital and analog electronics plus acoustic sounds (mostly from trumpet) into astonishing and mind-bending sonic escape routes. Joined here by Bay Area electronic music masters Chris Brown and Tim Perkis and shakuhachi artist Joel Taylor, these craggy, explosive duos provide a fresh retrospective at cutting-edge music at the Mills College Center for Contemporary Music.
